Dodos Blacked Out!

When the sun rose Sunday morning, it was pouring rain, postponing the Dodos Baseball game until further notice, leaving the afternoon Dodos Ice Hockey 2011 season opening game the only viable sports option of the day.

The Dodos Hockey team was not yet equipped with the full uniform (jersey snafu), but they looked to be prepared for their first game, despite some team members confessing to being overly nervous. Several Dodos Baseball players were in attendance to cheer Dodos Nation to its first ice hockey victory. The Dodos played the Blues tight during the first period, getting some key saves from goaltender, Chris Barrera until 18:51 of the first period when the puck trickled into the goal for a 1-0 Blues lead at first intermission.

When the second period began, the Dodos seemed to have regrouped between periods and started attacking the puck and the Blues early, but shot after shot was turned away by a good Blues goalie. The Blues added another goal, and about a minute later, the lights in the arena went out. The power outage forced the fans and teams to evacuate, leaving the game unfinished and saving the Dodos from their first loss of the season.

The Dodos Nation will return to action next Sunday when Dodos Baseball hosts the Durham Bulls at Oak Park High School at 10AM and Dodos Hockey plays the Blues in a rematch at Iceoplex in Simi Valley at 4:30PM.
