Forecast: Rain and Ice!

Another wet Saturday night spelled disaster for Dodos Baseball, canceling the game for the second straight week. There was a bright side, and that was the Dodos Hockey game in the afternoon.

In a rematch from the infamous "Blackout Game", the Dodos faced The Other Team. The Dodos looked to jump out to an early lead, attacking the net every opportunity they received, putting eight total shots on goal, but The Other Team's goalie turned away every shot. Dodos' goalie Chris Barrrera matched that effort, making seven saves on eight attempts. Another late in the period goal was surrender by Barrera when the puck trickled under his pad and into the net (19:13).

Trailing 1-0 in the second period, the Dodos put 11 shots on goal during the second twenty minutes. The Dodos tied the game when Brian Silvey's deflected shot was put into the net by team captain Matt Marsh (9:45, Silvey). Barrera continued to block shots and make saves and he was rewarded when the Dodos took the lead after Jeff Hewitt took a shot that was deflected to forward Dylan Mlcoch. Mlcoch spun and put a backhanded shot by the goalie (12:01, Hewitt, Strayhorn).

With a 2-1 lead late in the third period, Barrera appeared to suffer a knee injury on a save attempt. With just under seven minutes remaining in the game, Barrera was unable to continue playing. The Dodos resorted to having defenseman Pat Heninger stand in the goal with just his stick. The move resulted in a game-tying goal (13:21). Regulation time would run out, leading to shootouts.

Shootouts would prove interesting, as The Other Team's goalie would fill-in for Barrera, defending both goals for both teams. He did an extremely fair and stellar job, turning away ten total shots, allowing two goals, one from each team, resulting in a 2-2 tie.

Fantasy Performances of the Day: Marsh 1G, Mlcoch 1G, 1PEN; Silvey 1A, 1PEN; Hewitt 1A; Strayhorn 1A; Breithaupt 1PEN; Barrera 18SV; Heninger 2SV

Dodos Hockey plays next Sunday, Iceoplex Simi versus Last Call at 7:30PM on the Olympic Rink.
