Baseball Hot, Hockey, Er...Uh...Not...

The Dodos Baseball team is heating up with a four-game winning streak, led by the early front-runner for the PCBL A Division Cy Young award, Steve Cole. Cole is 4-0 with a 2.48 ERA, striking out 48 in 29 innings of work. Cole is also tied with Matty Lane for the highest team batting average at .529 (2 doubles, 7 RBI).

Chris Hoffman continues his climb up the MVP points ranking with three straight games with a home run. The Dodos defense has been more solid than in previous seasons, helping keep the total runs given up to only 41 in six games.

The Dodos (5-1) host the Cubs (0-6) at Oak Park High School at 2PM this Sunday, May 1, 2011.

First things first, Dodos Baseball now has a direct link to the team PCBL page. The new address is www.dodosbaseball.com. Not to be left out, Dodos Hockey now has a website (still in the works, so fans, no shit on Sundays please). That site can be found at this link: Dodos Hockey

Cole, Dethloff Power Dodos Past Dogs!

Following a three-week layoff (two rain outs, one snowboard trip), Steve Cole returned to the mound and was his usual self, spreading five hits, two runs (one unearned) and 12 strikeouts over seven innings. Cole would help this cause with a single, run scored and two stolen bases.

After a second inning error in right field allowed an unearned run for the Dogs, the Dodos got on the scoreboard, taking a 3-1 lead on three consecutive singles by Cole, Shaun Stephans, Jason Butter and a sacrifice fly from Dodos' two-sport athlete, Jeff Hewitt.

With a 4-2 lead in the sixth, the Dodos' offense loaded the bases with two walks and an error, bringing Charles Dethloff to the plate. Not to disappoint,  Dethloff launched the first pitch to deep left field, clearing the bases with a grand slam home run.

The Dodos allowed two more runs before Mike Warn would see his first action of the season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to solidify the Dodos' victory.

Shorthanded Dodos Lose 3-1!

With the starting goalie out with a knee injury, the Dodos faced the defending Division 4 champions, Last Call, in a Sunday hockey showdown at the Iceoplex in Simi. Dodos' forward William Strayhorn turned in a great effort filling-in as goalie, saving 26 out of 29 shots faced en route to a 3-1 defeat.

The Dodos had a few good scoring chances, but were unfortunately turned away by a good Last Call goalie. The Dodos would catch a break after Strayhorn blocked a shot and the deflection was scooped up by team assistant captain Pat Heninger. Heninger skated the length of the ice before shooting over a diving goalie, scoring the Dodos' only goal of the game (12:05, Strayhorn, PP).
